Thomas Genealogy & Family TreeThomas is an English name first found in Gloucestershire, Lincolnshire, and Hamptonshire, England, where Archbishop of York and Bishop of Worcester, Thomas of Bayeux, lived. It comes from the given name Thomas, popular in Medieval times because of the biblical figure Thomas, where the phrase “doubting Thomas” originates. It is the third most common name in France; the ninth most common name in the U.K.; the fourteenth most common in the United States; and is used frequently taken on by Christian families in India. The family motto is Virtus invicta gloriosa which means “Unconquered virtue is glorious.”
