Born November 25, 1971, in Hollywood, California, Christina Applegate is an American, Emmy-Award winning actress. Applegate's acting debut was at the age of three months in the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Guest spots in Father Murphy, Charles in Charge, Silver Spoons, and Family Ties followed over the years. In 1987, she got her breakout role in Married...with Children, which ran for 11 years. Her first major film role followed in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. Following Married...with Children's run, Applegate continued to work in film and television but also branched out to other endeavors, including being one of the founding members of the Pussycat Dolls and making her Broadway debut in the critically acclaimed revival of Sweet Charity. In recent years, she has starred in Anchorman, Samantha Who?, and Up All Night. Applegate is a cancer survivor after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. She is also an animal rights activist and donates her time to various foundations. She has been married twice--to actor Jonathan Schaech (2001-2007) and to musician Martyn LeNoble. She has one daughter, Sadie.
Christina Applegate's last name, "Applegate," is a Scottish name meaning "apple orchard" and referring to someone who lived near Dumfries near the border with England. Other spellings include "Aplegath," "Aplegarth," and "Applegarth." The first Applegate to come to the United States was James Applegate in Massachusetts in 1634.
