Clint Eastwood

Known for his steely voice and tough guy persona, Clint Eastwood is an American actor, director, composer, and producer. Born May 31, 1930, Eastwood, who stands 6'4", soon gained notice, though he was initially criticized by casting directors for his squint, his stiffness, and for hissing his lines through his teeth, all of which later became his trademarks. His first role was in 1955 in Revenge of the Creature, though his first break came on the television series Rawhide, where he also tried his hand at directing trailers for the show. Eastwoodеs next break was on A Fistful of Dollars, a gritty spaghetti Western that would help him establish his onscreen persona as the Man with No Name loner/anti-hero. Over the years, Eastwood perfected that character in various films, leading to 1971's Dirty Harry, arguably his most iconic role and one of the most quoted films of all time. The film was so popular it led to Eastwood being offered the part of James Bond, which he turned down since he felt the role should be played by an English actor. Other important films include Escape from Alcatraz, Sudden Impact (with the immortal line: "Go ahead, make my day"), Unforgiven, The Bridges of Madison County, True Crime, Space Cowboys, and Million Dollar Baby, many of which he also directed. He has had many relationships, and has seven children with multiple partners.

Clint Eastwood's last name, "Eastwood," is an English name first found in Yorkshire and Cheshire meaning "east of a wood." Other spellings include "Eastwoods," "Estwude," and "Eastwude." The first Eastwood to settle in the United States was Edward Eastwood in Virginia in 1621.
